A rewarding and easier day hike — a fantastic alternative to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing for those seeking a shorter, less challenging, but equally scenic adventure. Enjoy stunning alpine terrain with views of the Lower and Upper Tama Lakes, Taranaki Falls, and the volcanic peaks of Mt Ruapehu and Mt Ngauruhoe.

This 17 km return track forms part of the Tongariro Northern Circuit Great Walk, in the heart of Tongariro National Park — a UNESCO Dual World Heritage site. The trail passes waterfalls, tussock, and alpine shrublands before reaching viewpoints over the striking crater lakes on the Tama Saddle.
